Help save our fellow youth
Seven million- that’s the terrible number of Filipino drug addicts comprising almost 6-7 % of the population as revealed by Cebu City South District Rep. Antonio Cuenco from the 2009 report of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
This is what we should really be afraid of apart form the stinking political issues. Perhaps, because of too many selfish desires of those in the authority to gain merits in their names, they are forgetting what would really make the country go crazy.
Others may say that the government is still making movements against drug abuse like the “Batang Iwas Droga” or BIDA wherein the target members are elementary students. However, the way is not practical enough to discourage people of using drugs.
First and foremost, the kids don’t actually know why and how they would be using their part on this program. Secondly, they only know that, yes, it’s a movement against drugs; they have the “atm-like” ID and do join concerts and other events. In short, it’s just like the basic campaign against drugs which, for years, has not been effective.
Indeed, part of our common knowledge is the evil effects of drugs in our life. It’s the major cause of disruptions in our family and worst, in our society. We’ve been studying it since grade school and even further explained in high school but wonder why we have to reach this point of seven million cases taking for granted the responsibility of the authority to guide their people away from drugs.
Let us not wait for our own government to conduct a lot of movements and propagandas if we can already see that these have nothing in worth. Whether drugs render you ‘heavenly” joy or not, it is still a forever nuisance to other people and apparently, to your loved ones.
Anyway, it’s in you where the problems of drugs mainly arouse. So, better not wait for anyone to dictate what you should do. Instead, stick to what you have learned and don’t refuse to obey it for you own good.
